A therapeutic process that uses imagination and storytelling to create meaningful, lasting change.

Welcome

I’m Fiona Macbeth, creator of An Inside Story©

I am a facilitator and university lecturer with 30 years experience running workshops exploring personal narrative and leading training courses on working creatively with conflict.

My experience working with people at key moments in their lives inspired the creation of An Inside Story©, a therapeutic process that uses imagination and the power of storytelling to create meaningful, lasting change.

I offer private, group and ad hoc online sessions and opportunities.

Booking a session or group is easy, simply click through to the offering you’d like or visit offers.

What is An Inside Story?

WHY AN INSIDE STORY?

〰️

WHY AN INSIDE STORY? 〰️

We all have personal stories about our lives that we tell others; anecdotes about the family we grew up in, our childhood experiences, moments of humour or challenge, experiences that changed us.

We also carry our personal narratives; the beliefs and values we have acquired and which guide us and drive us and can sometimes create unwanted limitations for us. Recognising them for what they are helps, but they have been part of us so long it can feel impossible to change them.

Through working with people in times of challenge I have come to see how powerful personal narrative is. The Inside Story characters and story creation process supports recognition and release of those limiting personal narratives in a surprisingly light way.

We all face challenges and changes that can leave us feeling stuck, as if we're going round and round in circles. Trying to resolve deeply-felt experiences through thinking alone often falls short. When you're searching for clarity, something beyond logical thinking is needed and this is where our ability to imagine and dream can be so valuable. By trusting your visual and imaginative mind, you can surprise yourself with new insights. Engaging your imagination in a therapeutic setting is a powerful way to explore tough situations from a fresh perspective. It allows you to step away from daily pressures, create space for new ideas, and experience emotional release. This process can reconnect you with what truly matters and guide you towards what you're seeking.

About fiona

About fiona 〰️

Many years working as a facilitator, teacher, and drama practitioner inspired the creation of An Inside Story; a unique process that blends personal and imaginative story. Working with vulnerable adults and young people, I learned the importance of standing alongside someone, showing them that they are seen, and reflecting their value and meaningfulness. This doesn’t always require words—it comes from deep listening and holding space with compassion.

I bring skills of attentive listening to my practice, along with a commitment to creating a sense of space and possibility for whatever emerges. My training in conflict resolution and deep process facilitation has taught me how to work creatively and courageously with conflict, both internal and interpersonal.

The best way of understanding the Inside Story process is by trying it out yourself. People describe it as surprising and unexpected, but also oddly familiar.

I uncovered something I had been baffled by for as long as I can remember and together we found a way to transform it. Pure gold.
